There’s already been a lot of talk in the ecommerce space about the delivery war between online marketplaces. With everyone scampering to deliver as fast to customers as possible, some introduced same-day delivery while some introduced four-hour delivery.
The latest buzz on the topic is ‘Snapdeal Instant’, the ecommerce giant’s new service to deliver orders to customers within an hour of order placement. Currently to be rolled out in the three metros – Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, it will eventually be extended to the eight other major cities soon.
Snapdeal Instant would be extra chargeable to customers. But considering they will get their orders so quickly, we feel it’s only fair to charge a premium for this benefit. However, there would be a limit of 5 kg on the package weight.
Snapdeal Vice President Operations Ashish Chitravanshi told PTI,
“Snapdeal Instant is aimed at further improving customer experience on our platform by enabling faster deliveries and maintaining product quality at the same time. Customers could get their products delivered as early as within an hour of the order being placed.”
Sellers will be able to send out products to customers via the courier partners or fulfillment centres.
Hyperlocal is the mantra for etailers lately with everyone trying to deliver fastest to customer. With previous successes like 4-hour delivery and 90 minutes reverse pickup services, Snapdeal is likely to crack this as well owing to the limitations on the service, which seem reasonable enough.
Snapdeal is not the first to offer 1-hour delivery. Myntra launched it last year in Mumbai and Bengaluru to overwhelm customers. Going by the growth of the fashion etailer since then, it seems to have worked.
With etailers cutting down on discounts, they are trying out different ways to get customer eyeballs. But be it discounts or superfast delivery, the central idea seems to be “Pamper the customers, keep them hooked!” Don’t you think?
