Flipkart Initiates QR-Code-Based Pay-on-delivery Facility for Customers!

Sensing the need of the hour, Walmart-owned Flipkart has launched its contactless and QR-code-based payment option for all its cash-on-delivery orders.

According to the company statement, ‘Consumers who opt for cash-on-delivery are eligible to use this facility, scan the QR code attached to their purchase and make a digital payment for their order through any UPI app at the time of delivery.’

Reportedly, the step has smoothened the purchasing pattern for consumers who usually opt for cash-on-delivery payment mode and looking forward to making a digital payment for their orders using any of the popular UPI apps at the time of delivery.

Using a contactless payment method ensures enhanced safety for consumers, especially during this pandemic-stricken world when people prefer minimal personal contact. In addition, it is a step forward to fulfill the trust deficit that many consumers might feel, the statement added.

The statement further believes that the payment builds an in-house fintech innovation of Flipkart, empowering new-to-internet customers by bringing the subsequent 200 million users to the platform.

Expressing his views on this new development, Ranjith Boyanapalli, Flipkart head – Fintech and Payments Group, said,” As the lines between e-commerce marketplace and fintech continue to converge, it becomes imperative to solve for customers' evolving needs and attitudes. While the pandemic has urged several consumers to make a shift to online shopping, some trust deficit during checkout remains in pockets.”

With 'pay-on-delivery' technology, Flipkart wants to ensure that customers have peace of mind with their payments and at the same time can shop within the safety of their homes”, said Ranjith.

Flipkart has revealed that the number of UPI-based payments has witnessed a steady rise over the years, with offline person-to-merchant transactions accounting for 42.5 percent of all UPI transactions in December 2020.
