Flipkart to Reach 4.2 Lakh Seller Base by December 2021

Walmart owned Flipkart witnessed a 35 per cent increase in its seller base at the end of last year. Major of the sellers joining from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities paved the way for this spike. Flipkart is targeted to onboard 1.2 lakh new sellers, and MSMEs on its platform by this December and these new entrants are expected to create over 4 lakh direct and indirect jobs in the country.

With this addition, Flipkart’s customer base will reach over 4.2 lakh from the existing 3.75 lakhs. Ecommerce adoption has increased among the customers during the pandemic, and ecommerce giants started expanding their seller base to cater to the growing demand. 

Flipkart increased its seller base with the sellers coming from the tier II and tier III towns, including Agra, Indore, Jaipur, Panipat, Rajkot, Surat, etc. There is a rise in certain categories, such as general merchandise, home and kitchen and personal care. Flipkart added that they are always ready to support the MSMEs and seller ecosystem with respect to their learning, financial, operational and business needs as they add a wide selection of products on their platform. 

Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Flipkart Group mentioned in a statement that they ensure every small business, MSMEs, women entrepreneurs, weavers, and artisans should play an active role in the upcoming festive season. 

Flipkart enabled the next day payment program to support the business continuity in terms of cash flow. Under this program, sellers receive their order payments within days, this program comes with a 30-day free trial. A nominal transaction fee will be charged if the sellers wish to extend this program. 

This ecommerce platform also provides short term and long-term loans with low interest rates to the merchants to step into the online business. Flipkart’s organized logistics department allows the sellers to sell their products in any corner of the country. It also follows a simplified payment process via Flipkart Seller Account

All these standards make the sellers put trust in the Flipkart ecommerce marketplace. As a part of the upcoming festive season initiatives, Flipkart added 66 new large-scale fulfilment centres across the country. To help the sellers boost their business during the festive season, Flipkart hosted 45-day learning and development event. This platform has already onboarded 75,000 sellers as many MSMEs and small business entrepreneurs joined ahead of the festive season.

The personalized lending programs, simplified payment systems, and wide coverage of pin codes made MSMEs and sellers to join Flipkart ecommerce to sell their products.
