Since launching their online portal two years ago, Godrej’s Nature’s Basket has tied up with Snapdeal in January to sell their food produce online and in April announced a similar collaboration with Amazon. The latest development is sure to send shock waves through the lucrative e-grocery industry.

Omni-channel food and grocery retailer Nature’s Basket has taken a huge step forward by launching pan-India Operations with their products being made available across the country.

  • 125 cities to be covered initially and plan to touch 200 by end of fiscal
  • 10,000 plus products to be made available
  • estimated delivery will extend to over 3,000 pin codes
  • 1 million kilometres expected to be covered each month through deliveries
  • State capitals, tier 1, tier 2 and metros are included in the expansion

Mohit Khatta, MD, Godrej Nature’s Basket said, “Through our pan-India operations, we are expecting about 10X growth in the online revenues over the year owing to our renewed thrust in E-Commerce. With this latest move, we are now extending our platform to customers across the country.”

Godrej launched Nature’s Basket in 2005 as a fresh food shop, which has grown to the current 33 bricks and mortar stores. They plan to improve their product range to offer convenient dinner kits for two in the Rs. 300 to Rs. 400 category which could appeal to online buyers, who have little time to cook.

Tanya Dubash, executive director and chief brand officer, Godrej Group, said, “At Godrej nature’s Basket, we have always believed in being at the forefront of innovation and excellence – whether in terms of product quality and range or customer service and experience. We are consistently innovating, adopting and re-evaluating new platforms in the field of technology that would make life of our customers simpler and their experiences brighter and better.”

The current grocery market is pegged at $500 billion and as much as 10% is expected to move online and to mobile platforms in the near future. This makes the current scenario all the more intriguing. It will be interesting to see who will make the next big move in the industry.
