Who said all that women do online is shop for clothes? According to a new survey conducted by Flipkart, women in the capital city also like shopping for household products over the internet. Washing machines, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners you name it! Female online shoppers in Delhi contribute to 15% of all online home product purchases.
Flipkart has maintained a strong consumer base of around 75 million for more than a year. Recently they looked at the buying preferences of people in Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). Their findings revealed:
Predictions of the ecommerce future state the female demographic of online shoppers will shoot up. And Flipkart’s survey has picked up on the signals.
“Shopping online is more comprehensive in comparison to real-time marketing. One can order in between work hours without worrying about delivery. Also, availability of various options, easy exchange policies and offers to make online shopping easier and it is growing,” Flipkart’s Amitesh Jha, Vice-President of home product explained.
Jha added, “This trend is not only common among the working independent women but has also picked up among homemakers who have become digitally active.”
The study also showed that people prefer do it yourself (DIY) projects. DIY tool kits reduce their need for carpenters, plumbers, electricians and other similar service providers.
According to Jha, most consumers are now looking for purchases that reflect their personality. He says people are more concerned about value for money instead of product prices. Premium price is not an obstacle if one wants quality products.
People want multipurpose products that can serve more than one need. Like a cooking utensil cum serving dish.
