The Indian Republic Day sales have been alive and kicking for the past six days, leading up to Tuesday the 26th of January. With Republic Day being a public holiday it will surely bring a further upsurge in online sales. It is understood that the big online marketplaces Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon coped effectively during the sales and their platforms ran at efficient speeds, to the delight of their customers. While online marketplaces have tried to move away from offering deep discounts, products were discounted up to 80% during the Republic Day Sales.
What was interesting to note was the patriotic themes the online marketplaces have used for this years Republic day sales:
Amazon and Flipkart have already finished their Republic Day sales, but Snapdeal yet again seems to be swimming against the tide with its 6 day sale. It can remembered during Diwali, Flipkart with its Big Billion Days sale and Amazon with its Great Indian Festive Sale decided to concentrate on a few days, while Snapdeal stretched its sale every Monday for a number of weeks, concentrating on a different category each week. Also, last year Snapdeal had announced that it would be upgrading its platform to accommodate 11 regional languages on Republic day, so we await to see how that will impact sales.
“Consumer demand isn’t much these days. But during Republic Day sales, the interest is incredibly high. The response from the public is fantastic so far and the demand graph for electronics is increasing,” said Rahul Taneja, Snapdeal’s vice president.
