Marketplace fulfillment is a very good option, which takes all the hassles away from the sellers, from storing to packaging. We have been selling online for almost 2 years, and have even tried Marketplace Fulfillment, which was very good in the beginning. Higher visibility, and lot of sales. BUT then the issues start. Sellers do not have any say in the returns process. The Call centers accept almost every return, in the worst possible condition to keep customer happy, without even checking the genuinity of the claims. Sure there are seller protection policies, which refund you a part of the cost for damaged items, after deducting the commission, and other charges, which is not even enough even to cover the cost of the product.
Secondly, order verification is minimal for Marketplace fulfilled orders, so yes during sale, the volume of orders go five fold, most of them COD orders, and then after the sale is over, the returns start coming, mostly unaccepted COD orders. And the funny thing is that AMAZON charges shipping & Reverse shipping to sellers, regardless of the order being accepted or not. So for an item of 500g Selling at Rs 300, when retruned unaccepted, makes a seller lose around Rs 130 just in shipping cost, so considering that almost 40% of the COD orders during flash sales are returned, sellers lose a lot of money. And I have not even started on the hassles of sending the inventory to the warehouses, which need to have a PO generated, and inventory delivered at a specified time to the warehouses at your own cost. And there are always the packing and storing charges. Nothing is free. And if the items don’t sell, the inventory has to be picked up back from their warehouse, at your own cost. If not done within a specified time, the inventory is liquidated, aand you are given no money for it.
So before sending the inventory for fulfillment, consider all the charges, and have an accountant ready, to see if you are even making money, or just doing a business of selling items, and accepting returns.
REMEMBER, MARKETPLACES CAN CO WITHOUT PROFITS, AS ALL THEY HAVE TO LOOK OUT FOR IS SALES AND GMV. IF SELLERS WILL FOLLOW THEIR WAY, ALL THEY WILL HAVE ARE RETURNED PARCELS, AND NO MONEY IN THE BANK.
    Just my personal experiences.

We disagree with the facts you have given as we have recently withdrawn from flipkart FA after 9 months of being and FA seller. The losses are huge as the handling is not done properly . The shipment packaging is done according to the category and if your product is expensive and your category does not allow the corrugated box packaging than they will ship it in polybags. we had 38% damages when it was shipped by the FA and when we shipped by ourself it’s 2% only. The compensation is also not clear as the AVERAGE selling price of the category not product selling price. FOR an example if the other sellers are selling product at 500 inr and your product is for 2500 inr the SPF amount is given by 500 inr not 2500 inr while your commission is charged for 2500 inr. so strange. we had a staggering loss of 12,00,000.00 lakhs in 4 months due to damages, fake orders ( 250-300 by one single customer and FA processed and they returned damaged) .

so its always not advisable to go for marketplace fulfillment . its depending on your product value , brand value selling price, etc. and the freight rates you have given is also not true. fedex charges 45.60 national for under 500 grams in general and if you ahve a large volume it’s 33.80 inr.

we will suggest you not to post wrong information before taking a feedback from sellers. flipkart recently organised product return session in different cities( even you posted the news) so it’s not that FULFILLMENT by amazon , flipkart snapdeal is always good. These marketplace are good for sellers to build brand nut not to burn their pocket for earning the easy return policy of customer.

    thanks
