Snapdeal Becomes The First eCommerce Platform To Go Live On ONDC

At its first, Snapdeal has become the first eCommerce platform to sign a pact to join the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) from next month. ONDC is a UPI-type initiative taken by the Government Of India to reduce the dominance of the eCommerce giants Flipkart and Amazon in India.

Regarding the same, Snapdeal issued a statement stating that it had signed to join ONDC earlier this month. Both teams are working together to complete the technical integration for the pan India launch by August-mid.

Himanshu Chakrawarti, President of Snapdeal, said that the increase in the digitization of India’s retail would bring a ton of opportunities for sellers, buyers, and stakeholders. Snapdeal looks forward to working closely with the ONDC team in this path-breaking endeavor.

It is reported that Snapdeal will join ONDC with three key categories - fashion, home, beauty & personal care. Snapdeal also stated that it might explore the on-network logistic option available on the ONDC platform. All the 3rd-party logistics providers working on Snapdeal will provide inter and intra-city logistics with its 75-plus fulfillment centers across the country.

Whereas Mr. T. Koshy, CEO of ONDC, said that joining Snapdeal will only boost the plan of reaching a wider audience of buyers and sellers, it will also help us reach a larger part of our country.

Earlier, Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, announced that ONDC would gradually expand its footprint to more cities. It tends to connect with the entire farm value chain.
