As it says, an end is starting something new; Jeff Bezos, the founder of $1.7 trillion valued Amazon Inc., has passed on the baton after 27 long years of its existence. Andy Jassy, the man-in- charge of the company’s cloud-computing business, is the new CEO.
In the company announcement, Bezos revealed that he is stepping away from the position of the CEO but taking over the role of the executive chairman of the company’s board. It gives him time and energy to focus on his other ventures, the announcement said.
The move has been interpreted as the retirement plan for Bezos, but it is more of a career reboot for him as he is keen to maximize his holdings in his other ventures and projects founded in the last few years. The man himself is valued at around $200 billion, which means he has enough funds to invest in any passion-driven or any other venture.
"As Exec Chair, I will stay engaged in important Amazon initiatives but also have the time and energy I need to focus on the Day 1 Fund, the Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, The Washington Post, and my other passions. I've never had more energy, and this is not about retiring. I'm super passionate about the impact I think these organizations can have." Bezos wrote in his email to Amazon employees.
Among his brainchildren, Blue Origin is one of the ventures worthy of being mentioned. It matches the potentiality of rivals SpaceX- a venture of Elon Musk and NASA's power mission to the moon. Originally launched in 2000, Blue Origin has registered many important accomplishments in the commercial space sector. The primary goal is to make space travel more accessible by using reusable launch systems. It is counted amongst Bezos's childhood projects.
The other major project worth mentioning is the charitable Day 1 Fund started in 2018 in association with his ex-wife MacKenzie. The fund aims to support homeless families and allow them to enjoy better educational opportunities. The name describes Bezos's principle of approaching every day with a first-day mentality.
