CAIT Expresses Disappointment Over MoUs with Amazon by States


The traders' body, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), has expressed their disappointment over the Indian States cracking MOUs with eCommerce giant Amazon. Calling it ‘unfortunate,’ CAIT has written to the chief ministers of all states, and the committee is planning to meet them in person to convince them to revisit their decisions. Moreover, the confederation intends to hold protests across the states in support of their demands.
CAIT, in its statement, said, “It is "most unfortunate and regrettable" that some of the Indian states have signed the memorandum of understanding (MOUs) or agreements with Amazon which allows the eCommerce giant to sell products of government agencies.”
In their opinion, such MOUs are against the campaigns such as "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" and "Vocal for Local" initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The confederation is planning to write the chief ministers from the included list to express their concerns and ask for the support of their demands.
“Earlier, Dr. Narottam Mishra, Home Minister, Madhya Pradesh, had admitted that Amazon is involved in the supply racket of ‘ganja.’ Hence, the Madhya Pradesh government should immediately cancel its agreement with Amazon,” added B.C. Bhartia, The trader’s body National President and Praveen Khandelwal, is Secretary in a recent statement.
The body has also urged the Madhya Pradesh government to advise its agencies to "disassociate" themselves from Amazon.
The traders’ association statement expressed that Amazon is a well-known global law offender who has been facing lawsuits in different countries for its malpractices in business and is continuously violating Indian laws & rules. They are being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate and Competition Commission of India.
The Indian States including Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand, West Bengal have signed deals or agreements with Amazon, reveals the trader body.
