Bengal Government And Flipkart Signed An MoU To Support Local Weavers

India's homegrown eCommerce giant, Flipkart, has been trying hard to increase its product base by attracting local artisans to its platform. Recently, Flipkart has signed a memorandum of understanding with the West Bengal government to support the local artisans and craftsmen. The company will train these artisans on how to improve their business by using its platform.
Last year, the Walmart-owned eCommerce company Flipkart signed a similar agreement with the Himachal Pradesh government. The training programs for artisans and weavers will be supported under the Flipkart Sammarth Program. This MoU was signed with West Bengal's Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises and Textile department.
Previously this year, 700 Kirana stores assisted Flipkart in improving Ekart's delivery process. The brand is constantly evolving and taking new steps to improve its services and increase the small and medium businesses' earnings. Rajneesh Kumar, Flipkart Group Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, said that the agreement with the West Bengal government would drive the economic growth of the local artisans and MSMEs with Flipkart's national market access.
He further said that as Flipkart is India's homegrown company, it is very passionate about its sellers' growth. The company is dedicated to building an inclusive eCommerce ecosystem and is constantly working on innovative ideas to uplift and empower all sections of society and MSMEs.
Commenting on the agreement, Rajesh Pandey, the Principal Secretary of West Bengal's MSME department, stated that the department is focused on improving the growth of the MSMEs in the state. He also added that this partnership with Flipkart will enhance the development of artisans, craftsmen, and numerous small and medium businesses by providing them access to various markets. Adding to his statement, he said that these efforts are made to drive commercial and social development in West Bengal.
