PayPal initiates seller protection program against fraudulent buyers!

Online payment platform PayPal has its own “Seller Protection Programme” for tangible goods and intangibles too! According to this program, sellers are protected against transactions that may go wrong due to unauthorized situations or order not received complaints.
The new programme protected vendors selling fashion, art and handicrafts. Now the programme includes intangible like travel, tickets, events and services.
PayPal India’s Country Manager and Managing director, Anupam Pahuja, said, “Growing instances of online fraud act as a barrier for sellers selling online services and other intangible goods to clients abroad. With our Seller Protection Programme for Intangibles, we aim to empower freelancers and merchants in India to sell with confidence and assure them that they have our support to grow.”
The programme specifics
- The Seller Protection Programme covers all the major modes of payments offered by the platform. Email pay and mass pay are also covered under this program.
- Digital goods and vehicles will not be covered by this programme.
- To avail of protection under this programme, a seller must provide compelling evidence of the fulfilling the transaction or in case of “non-receipt of order” chargebacks.
- In the event of a buyer filing a claim, payment reversal or chargeback for unauthorised transactions or for items not received, the sellers funds will be put on hold till the proofs provided are deemed valid.
- A seller may be denied the benefits of the Seller Protection Programme on account of misuse through fraudulent claims.
The PayPal Resolution Centre will conduct investigations based on 2 types of complaints –
- Unauthorised transaction – where the buyer claims not to have authorized payment.
- Item not received – where the buyer claims not to have received the product or service provided by the seller.
PayPal will work with the seller to make sure they are protected against buyers with bad intentions.
