Beef up online security to increase customer trust

Online security in India is apparently not taken as seriously as it should be. With a number of malware and hackers always on the prowl, net users are not acting cautious enough to protect themselves. This is especially true of the young and carefree millennials of India who cannot be bothered, according to a Norton Cyber-security Insights report.
The report says that most Indians don’t have any antivirus on their systems, and many still use generic passwords for their online accounts.
Fran Rosch, Executive VP and GM of Symantec’s Norton noted that Indians above the age of forty are more prudent when it comes to protecting data.
Rosch said, “We need to get into this (the young) age group and tell them that it is a serious problem.”
Cyber threats to online sellers and solutions
Online sellers find themselves at the mercy of unscrupulous buyers and hackers who try to take advantage of loopholes in the online selling system. Some of the things that online sellers can do to protect themselves include:
- Identify potential attacks and take steps to prevent it
- Employ ethical hackers to contend with the unethical ones
- Use honeypots to divert hackers to a fake server
Criticality of online security
It is extremely important that online sellers make their platforms as safe from cyber attacks as possible. Assuring customers that their data is safe will help widen the customer base. It will also encourage customers to pay using online transactions, thereby bringing down the insistence of cash on delivery and the pitfalls associated with it.
As Sellers, finding yourself in a cyber attack can attract some embarrassing publicity, which can lead to a breakdown of trust by consumers. So remember Sellers, It is better to be prepared for a potential attack to prevent it, rather than attempt damage control after it has taken place.
