Snapdeal improves delivery; delisting inefficient sellers

A Bank of America Merrill Lynch survey conducted this year, found that online marketplace, Snapdeal offers a larger range of products at a cheaper rate than its rivals Flipkart and Amazon. On the other hand, Flipkart was considered to be more effective and efficient in terms of delivery. Amazon also proved competitive on all fronts.

Focusing on the first & last mile

After a festive sale period which reportedly did not go as well as expected did not go as well as expected, Snapdeal is looking to bring in the New Year with a bang, by improving its supply chain and in particular concentrating on trusted and speedy delivery. Snapdeal recently became the largest shareholder in logistics company, Gojavas and is using it extensively for last mile delivery. It also invested in delivery management firm, Vulcal this year and will use its resources for first mile pick up.

Ample Warehouse space

Earlier in the year, Snapdeal continued to mesmerize by adding more warehouses. It currently has 63 warehouses. This is more warehouses than Flipkart which has 17 and Amazon which has 21. Snapdeal is looking at ways of how it can capitalise on this advantage.

Getting tough with sellers

Snapdeal wants to increase the speed in which it delivers goods to customers and has come up with new improved quality checks at every stage of its ecommerce operations. This involves getting the best out of its sellers and it has now decided to remove online sellers who cannot deliver satisfactorily.

“If a seller fails to fulfil delivery in reasonable amount of time, it is delisted from the platform,” says Jayant Sood, chief customer experience officer, Snapdeal.
