Amazon has proof that tier 2 cities are hot in ecommerce!

According to the latest report from ecommerce giant Amazon India, there has been significant increase in traffic and sales conversions from tier 2 cities. Noor Patel, Director – Category Management, Amazon said that the percentage went up to 50% from 36% in a year.
With more than 25 million products across multiple categories, Amazon boasts of the largest bookstore in the country today, with both online and offline formats. According to an example put forth by Patel, there was a 200% spike in the demand for books from just one city itself, Coimbatore. This is indicative of the rising popularity of online shopping from consumers in this and many other tier 2 cities. Apparently, fiction is their favourite category.
Music is another category that has grasped the interest of tier 2 customers, the 100% growth in daily sales testimony to this. Since inception in November last year, Amazon’s music store has been registering an average of 25% increase every month.
Amazon has added fulfilment centres in 12 new cities lately (including Bengaluru, Ludhiana, Pune etc.) and will open if required.
