When 2015 started, we heard about Amazon’s expansion plans in terms of better easy ship facility for sellers and more product options for shoppers. Now we hear there’s more in the cards for Amazon India.

The ecommerce giant now plans to open a warehouse in Hyderabad keeping in tune with its expansion plans to extend reach and cater to more customers in high-demand areas.

Discussing the expansion plan, Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao said, “Amazon has come forward to set up a warehouse/fulfillment centre in Hyderabad. Amazon will start their operations from a leased facility in about two months before the own facility is constructed.”

Apparently, the minister sought Amazon’s help in promoting the local handicrafts of Telangana like Nirmal handicrafts, Pochamplli sarees etc., which have been popular, and sought-after products manufactured in the area.

Sources indicate that the Hyderabad warehouse would be around 3 lakh sq.ft spread on a vast area of 25 acres of land. In addition to its operations, Amazon would also engage in training the MSMEs in the area to utilize the online platform and maximize profits from selling their wares online.
