Flipkart may be great for Walmart to acquire!

It seems like 2015 is going to be a roll for Flipkart. Just a couple of weeks back, the company has received about $ 700 million in investments, with plans to draw even further investments this year. If the figures are to be believed, Flipkart is aiming to bag $15 billion in funding this year. That is valued at about Rs 95,000 crores. Flipkart is also planning to sell goods worth $ 3 billion by the end of the financial year in March. Flipkart presently has about 13 warehouses, 4,000 registered sellers and operates in over 300 cities.
According to Anindya Ghose, professor of IT and marketing at New York University’s Leonard Stern School of Business, “What they (Flipkart) need to focus on now is building an installed base of loyal users who will find the platform sticky enough and not go to competitors like Snapdeal or Amazon at the drop of a hat.”
Plan for progress
Flipkart is already gearing up to battle this tough competition by ramping up its organisational structure. It is believed that the organisation wishes to give Mukesh Bansal an important position within the company, as they are impressed with his capabilities.
Flipkart is truly the pioneer of Indian ecommerce. What sets them apart though, is their ability to tread a business path that has never been tried before in India and in most cases, experiencing astounding success. However, there have been some hiccups as well. They have done so well that experts believe that Flipkart is a potential acquisition target, with a possible strategic interest by Walmart.
Vineesh Chadha, former chief operating officer of ColorPlus Fashions, and managing partner at Aumentis Consulting believes, “Agreed, many of their (Flipkart) offerings like Flyte (music downloading service) did not do well and it had to shut down. But one thing you cannot take away from them is their ability to experiment, learn and keep on evolving. For this reason, the Indian ecommerce story is for real and the valuation Flipkart is seeking is justified.”
We hope Flipkart achieves its goals for this year and the way things are moving, we are pretty sure that Flipkart is one top of its game!
