2 lakh ecommerce professionals needed by 2015

The ecommerce industry has become a hotspot for entrepreneurship and jobs. Besides breathing life into the packaging industry, logistics delivery systems in India and the like, ecommerce is also promising jobs to youngsters.
According to Ashish Jhalani, founder of eTailing India, this lucrative industry needs 2,00,000 e-commerce professionals by 2015. It is no wonder that Jhalani has spearheaded the establishment of a specialised training centre for eBusiness. Jhalani and Nayan Bheda, founders of Indian School of eBusiness (ISeB), believe that they will be able to offer 800 trained professionals to the ecommerce industry in 2015.
“We started batches in Oct 2014. We will also open centres in Jaipur and Delhi soon. The idea is to have 5 more centres this year and generate at least 4000 e-commerce ready graduates for the industry,” Jhalani said.
Déjà vu
The Indian School of eBusiness is not the only educational institute riding on the ecommerce success wave. About 200 students graduate each year from The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Commerce. Ecommerce companies are willing to snap these graduates up, as the packaging of a product is now entering the limelight. “Flipkart has so far hired five of our students and we have enquiries from other ecommerce companies for the placement season,” said NC Saha, IIP’s director.
All of this indicates how ecommerce should be encouraged by the Indian legal framework and policies, as it can the best vehicle to drive India’s economy forward.
