Snapdeal launches hotel and catering supplies products

Snapdeal, backed by eBay, has added another feather to its cap by entering into the hospitality segment. The Delhi-based online marketplace has launched its latest category- hotels and catering supplies. Consumers will have access to about 50,000 products including cookware, bakeware, dining and serving wares, glassware, professional knives, heavy gauge cutlery etc.

The latest addition to its expanding product categories is to assist upcoming restaurateurs and individuals, as also catering businesses.

“This launch will further strengthen Snapdeal’s leadership as a marketplace and a shopping destination for all kinds of products across categories which fulfill customers’ both home and business requirements. In the future, we also plan to integrate a whole range of hotel linen (mattresses, pillows, bed linen and bath linen) into the category and thereby meet all the needs of a hotel/ restaurant,” said Tony Navin, Senior Vice President – Electronics & Home at Snapdeal.com.

Around 50% of Snapdeal’s current transactions are mobile-based. With the addition of new categories, they seem to be aiming to attract more customer segments, thus strengthening its positioning as one of the dominant players in the Indian ecommerce space.

Snapdeal’s chief executive Kunal Bahl said the company will stay competitive by focusing on expanding its merchant base, investing in fulfillment centres and on mobile commerce.
