Snapdeal goes out-of-its-way to woo customers
Snapdeal is right behind Flipkart and Amazon in the battle for supremacy in Indian e-commerce. Is it just the variety of products and discounts that make it popular with customers?
Maybe not. Why you ask?
I made my first purchase from Snapdeal and when asked the option – Continue as Guest OR Sign in with account, I chose the former as it was easier. I completed the transaction and got my confirmation SMS and email about my order.
Less than two mins later, I got this in my inbox:
Yes, I didn’t have to bother signing up, Snapdeal did it for me automatically. All I had to do now was click on the mentioned link and generate my password.
Would this attract a customer? Absolutely. Although signing up and completing details for a transaction involves the same things – name, address, payment option etc, when ‘Sign up’ is tagged to it, some people just opt for ‘Continue as guest’ option. In the process, online store or marketplace loses out on the opportunity to get the customer’s loyalty right away.
However, Snapdeal has managed to turn that around and woo the customer by creating an account for the customer anyway, with the details entered for the transaction.
Will it lead to more purchases from the customer? Maybe, maybe not. But it will make the customer at least browse through the site more.
P.S.: I didn’t purchase a television to get pampered like this. I only bought an item worth Rs. 100!
Should an Indian Online Seller sell on Snapdeal?
Although this is not an ‘IT’ factor to start or increase selling on Snapdeal, it shows that Snapdeal is making efforts to woo customers and retain them. Small features go a long way in holding customers’ interest and sometimes increases recall in their minds when they think of making an online purchase.
In practice for a while, this could be one of the reasons why customers get attracted to shopping from Snapdeal. And many other e-commerce sites have this option too now.
