Flipkart enters e-learning space with around 2000 products

After the recent speculation about Flipkart’s one billion USD fund raise, the poster boy of Indian e-commerce is back in the news. Flipkart has now launched an e-learning category with over 1900 products and titles across brands like Career Launcher, Edurite, EduKart, Merit Nation, TCY Online and Practice Guru. This category will offer an exhaustive range of e-learning material, certification courses and online tests catering to students with a variety of requirements. Flipkart announced in a release.
More importantly, it is to be noted that in February this year, fellow competitor Snapdeal had similarly forayed into the e-learning category with several divisions such as online learning and educational courses such as preparation materials for tests, certificate courses, classroom training etc. Online learning platforms like Edukart, Meritnation, EasySkillz, Simplilearn, Practice Guru and Test Funda have already listed their e-learning packages on Snapdeal.
Flipkart’s Senior Director – (Retail), Nipun Mehra said, “The availability of eBooks, certificate courses and online tests – all on one platform, will make the entire process of buying/accessing e-learning material very easy for students who form a significant part of our customer base today.” Flipkart will continue to expand its e-learning portfolio with exclusive offerings for students with varied needs, it stated.
As an introductory offer, Flipkart will be providing exclusive offers with up to 100% cash-back on purchase of products under the e-learning category. Additionally, as a value addition to customers of books, free shipping on all books orders for a limited period. Earlier this month, Flipkart had also launched a student-focused subscription service called Flipkart Students, which claims to offer additional discounts on products across various categories to students along with a 50% discount on its Flipkart First subscription service.
Interestingly, in the US and UK, Amazon provides a similar 50% discount on Prime membership to students after an initial six months free period.
The e-learning space in India is extremely crowded with very little differentiation between the offering companies. With it’s new focus on e-learning, Flipchart has planned its strategy in a way to not only reach out to the educational sector, but this also gives the online giant marketplace to grab more eyeballs and also attract customers to sign up and be addicted to online shopping on Flipkart.
With the newer fund raising speculation and with newer strategies and convenient options being rolled out for its customers coming from Flipkart, one can only expect several innovations and improvements in services and discounts popping out from the online giant marketplace.
