eBay India’s initiative to create world’s largest Trader Base, ties up with CAIT

One of the world’s largest ecommerce platforms, eBay is associated with around 25 million traders across the world and about 45,000 in India. In an effort to create the world’s largest trader base, eBay has entered into a tie-up with CAIT, which is a traders body, to encourage small retailers to sell products through its platform.
India, with its vast geography and huge population is filled with small trader associations across the country. CAIT, Confederation of All India Traders, is associated with more than 20,000 small trader associations. eBay and CAIT have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by which Indian traders will be educated and modernized through an eCommerce Centre of Excellence (COE).
The campaign will be carried out nationwide jointly by CAIT and eBay. Indian traders will be able to conduct retail exports through the platform to 201 countries and around 4,306 locations in India. CAIT already has a large base of 60 million traders which operate through it and conduct business activities in retail trade across India.
Signaling the beginning of a multi-year relationship, this will be an excellent opportunity to modernize retail trade in India. eBay will train CAIT’s members to set up successful online stores. By providing education and creating education among the trader community, they will be able to conduct online businesses effectively and extend their customer base beyond their parent city or area of operation.
Both eBay and CAIT are excited about the opportunity and scope of the initiative and are hopeful that the domestic trader base may surpass the global trader count some time.
