eCommerce giant Amazon Inc. has announced to launch its ‘Digital Kendra’ to empower and strengthen Indian businesses with eCommerce. The step aims to enable MSMEs to recover from the recent economic challenges due to the COVID-19 and facilitate them to enjoy the surging waves of eCommerce in the country by connecting them to different corners of the world with easy few steps.
The Amazon facility launched its first Kendra in Surat, Gujarat. These brick-and-mortar resource centers aim at providing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) the opportunity to learn about the benefits of eCommerce. Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat, inaugurated the center and expressed that this initiative will help equip MSMEs with the right knowledge, skills, and support to benefit from technology adoption and e-commerce.
Furthermore, Amazon Digital Kendras work as walk-in establishments and offer an opportunity to learn and avail a range of third-party services, including shipping and logistics support, cataloging assistance, digital marketing services, GST, and taxation support for successful online businesses.
Manish Tiwary, Vice President of Amazon India, said, “This is an important step towards the commitment we have made to digitize MSMEs. Our thought process was that if Amazon can go down to these MSME clusters and handhold them through their digitization journey, it will help small businesses take their first steps towards e-commerce. Our trained resource partners will take these MSMEs through all the services and various programs which Amazon provides.”
“Last year at Sambhav, we had announced that Amazon would invest $1 billion in India to help digitize 10 million Indian MSMEs by 2025,” said Amit Agarwal, Senior VP, and Country Head, Amazon India. “And today, we take one more important step towards that goal as we open our first Amazon Digital Kendra in Surat, Gujarat. It is an earnest endeavor to bring the right tools, support, and services infrastructure closer to where MSMEs are based and help them benefit from e-commerce. Amazon Digital Kendra will help MSMEs grow their business with the adoption of technology and play an even more important role in the revival and growth of the Indian economy.” he added.
According to the company sources, Amazon plans to engage with local partners to establish more Digital Kendras to provide local partners with additional revenue streams while imparting crucial information on the understanding of eCommerce. It will work as a growing tool for the business growth of MSMEs.
“This was a step required to remove the friction for (businesses) who have never made business or accepted payments online. I feel that this would act as the bridge to get to train and handhold them,” said Tiwary.
