Amazon’s Global Seller programme onboards 6,000 Indian Online Sellers

Just last month, Indian Online Sellers got to participate in the USA’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sale, courtesy of Amazon. Amazon’s Global Seller programme is giving it an edge over rival ecommerce marketplaces Flipkart and Snapdeal, due to the power of its huge global network.

Global Seller programme (India)

Initially online sellers could only sell their products via Amazon’s Global Seller Program in the US and UK, but now 9 major economically advanced countries are available to Indian sellers, which include the likes of Japan and Germany.

  • The service was launched in India with 200 sellers, in May 2015
  • Over 6,000 Indian sellers are now signed up

    Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA)

As an added bonus, online sellers who have signed up for the Global Seller Programme can also take advantage of Amazon’s ‘Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA)’ initiative. This is similar to the FBA service offered to Indian sellers in the country, where they can stock their products in Amazon warehouses. The only difference is they can now keep their products in Amazon’s global fulfilment centres, so that they can serve foreign customers in a shorter space of time

“I expect a majority of the sellers to use FBA because the value is unique. Sellers have a choice: each package from India can take a few weeks to get to international markets and that would obviously limit demand. Or, sellers can use (FBA), cut delivery time and the impact on business is very big. And it’s a pay-as-you-go model. Sellers don’t need to make capital investments (in building support services),” said Eric Broussard global vice-president of global selling at Amazon.com Inc.
