Ecommerce delivery boy robbed at gunpoint for cash & camera

Some of the challenges ecommerce delivery boys face include, back problems, road accidents, excessive overtime and locating the customer. Becoming a victim of robberies is also on the increase for the people who make up a key part of the ecommerce logistics eco-system.

A gang of 4 who ordered an expensive camera on Flipkart, allegedly lured the delivery boy to an unknown location, before robbing him at gunpoint. The accused stole Rs.10,000 which he had collected from customers during the day. The camera which was ordered online was also stolen. It is understood from this ET report, that the Samta Nagar policed managed to track down 2 suspects, while the other 2 are yet to be traced.

How it transpired?

“One of the accused, Shaileshchandra Nagwanshi (22), created a log-in under the fictitious name of Pritam Shah on Flipkart. He then placed an order for a camera worth Rs 47,445 and sought a delivery at Balaji Enclave at Lokhandwala Complex in Kandivli (E),” stated an official.

The crime took place on 18th December. As the delivery boy could not find the desired address, as usual he phoned the customer to get the adequate directions. When the prime accused (Dubey) saw that the delivery boy had brought the parcel, he quickly summoned two other accomplices. That’s when the unfortunate incident was alleged to have taken place.

“We formed two special teams of personnel and tracked down the IP address of the computer that was used to create the Flipkart log-in. The probe led the teams to Nagwanshi. We found that the contact which the gang had used to create the log-in was that of a stolen cellphone. The accused had snatched the handset from a security guard of an ATM. Nagwanshi led us to Dubey, who was arrested on Thursday,” said senior inspector Dilip Yadav of Samta Nagar police station.
