Intimate wear and lingerie is still a hush-hush subject in our country and online retail seemed to be the perfect answer to women’s woes. Apart from the convenience of not having to move out of their houses or workplaces to purchase, online lingerie also meant that female customers no longer had to be reluctant about walking into a shop to buy them.
Zivame was one of the earliest movers into this segment, soon capturing the hearts of customers to become the pioneer in the space. In a bid to advance further, the online lingerie retailer has secured Rs 250 crore funding from a group of investors including Zodius Technology Fund, Khazanal Berhad and other existing investors.
Since inception in 2011, Zivame has secured $8 million funding.
“The funds will be used to raise awareness about the category and company, ramping up the technology platform, enhancing consumer experience on mobile phones as well as setting up fitting stores across the country,” Zivame founder and CEO Richa Kar told PTI.
The online lingerie segment is valued at $1 billion. Zivame will utilize the funds for the following:
Fitting stores is a means to achieve Zivame’s goal of educating women about good and fitting intimate wear. They will be able to visit the stores to understand their body types and make informed choices about the products they want to pick. As many as 100 such stores is being planned across the top 10 cities in the country.
Richa also said, “Worldwide, lingerie is the most exciting category in the women’s apparel segment. The Indian woman, who is more confident than ever before is indulging herself in lingerie to express her individuality. She wants to look and feel good and has the economic independence to splurge on lingerie she never had access to before. Zivame is the catalyst of this change; using technology to understand her better and providing her an unsurpassed lingerie experience.”
“We are also proud to launch the first Indian lingerie app today. We want to empower women to shop their most intimate wear in the most intimate environment – their mobiles,” Richa said.
Currently, Zivame has around 60% of its traffic coming from mobile. The personal nature of the app is bound to attract more users as they can indulge in their choices more freely and confidently.
