Consumers are always looking for more options, the reason why etailers explore ways to keep them hooked. In trying to cater to as many requirements as possible, online marketplaces introduce product categories to capture as much of the consumer base as possible.

Last week, we heard about Flipkart’s possible foray into travel ecommerce through a tie-up with Makemytrip. The latest from the ecommerce giant is the launch of India Art House, an online store providing sellers with an exclusive platform for promoting their regional products.

“With over seven million artisans, India is globally known for its unique artifacts and traditional products. India Art House aims at bringing products from artisans under one roof and offer them access to a wide set of customers across geographies,” Flipkart Chief Business Officer Ankit Nagori said in a statement here.

For customers

On Flipkart’s Art House store, customers will be able to buy from a range of crafts, home décor, furnishing, paintings, handloom items etc. More than 10,000 handmade and traditional handicrafts will be on offer.

For sellers

Flipkart’s idea with Art House is to make it the one-stop store for authentic and original Indian handicrafts. For this, the platform would need to have as diverse a range of products as possible. This is possible only with sellers and artisans selling a variety of items.

Currently, the online marketplace has got products from more than 15 regions. There are plans to expand and include more products in the coming months. This is the opportunity for anyone dealing with unique Indian handicrafts to reach out to a wide customer base and establish their online presence.
