“2015 will see a lot of development in the Indian e-commerce space with India emerging as one of the fastest-growing ecommerce markets in Asia/Pacific along with China,” says Ankit Nagori, SVP Marketplace, Flipkart.
The ecommerce marketplace has emerged as a ground-breaking model – especially for a technologically evolving economy like India with a high seller-base. The year 2014 alone saw thousands of businesses/SMEs join the online revolution and this year the e-commerce marketplace is poised to grow to an estimated $20 billion market. Helping entrepreneurs/sellers expand their businesses, the marketplace model offers wider visibility and reach into a larger audience-base at a fraction of traditional retail costs.
Every seller’s key focus is to grow their businesses across geographies and reach out to more customers with newer offerings – and in that context an online marketplace platform is today the key enabler. In recent times, the e-commerce platform has seen a new wave of enthusiasm amongst SME’s across India towards the online sales model. Flipkart has been working towards offering sellers extensive support and guidance in this aspect. For over two years, Flipkart has worked with the MSME community, government bodies and local associations to offer create a support and training framework that will help sellers across India get online scale their business nationally.
Use of good quality ancillary services also contributes towards a seller’s online success. Flipkart trains every seller with regards to packaging and cataloguing guidelines while simultaneously connecting them to ancillary service providers.
With a surge in the number of Indians participating in online shopping year on year, the e- marketplace is beginning to see a lot of sellers from smaller cities coming online. E-commerce today has become the go-to platform for any business that wants to expand its operations and reach out to a wider customer-base. With large scale global investments, growth of niche category ecommerce firms, entry of global competitors/brands and a mature set of customers, the ecommerce landscape in India looks very promising.
The way India shops is completely changing – and e-commerce is driving that change.
