“Over time, many of our sellers will only have a mobile phone to do business. So we want to go mobile only, not mobile first,” says Amazon India’s Director and General Manager, Amit Deshpande about the in-house built app. With this quote from the Director himself, you must have got a clear idea of what Amazon is aiming at – Go Mobile!
But! But! But! Amazon is going mobile for its sellers. Sellers being equally important to marketplaces as customers, the mobile app has been launched by the eCom giant to make things easy, quick and convenient for the sellers on the go.
Amazon’s mobile app will allow the sellers to update their inventory on the website, confirm orders, respond to customer queries, estimate the profitability of the items before they go up on the website as well as access Amazon support.
In an interview given to The Hindu Business Line, Mr. Deshpande said, ‘“Sellers are also able to view their sales summary at the touch of a button and thus evolve their sales strategy to grow profitably. We did a pilot before the official launch and found out that sellers had witnessed a 10-time growth in their business,”
Listed below are some of the important features of the Amazon Seller App:
As per what information Mr. Amit Deshpande shared during an Interview, the seller base of Amazon has seen a tremendous rise – they have gone up from 100 to 20,000 in the span of just 20 months. Now the issue is – these sellers also do business with other eCom giants like Flipkart and Snapdeal. Amazon hence has to come up with new strategies to beat the competition by offering their sellers something that no other competitor is offering.
With the launch of Amazon Seller App in India, the etailer is looking forward to increase the seller base. Also, as the market is shifting from desktop to mobile; mobile app will definitely help the company to keep up with the trend and attract more sellers.
Why are companies going mobile? Is there any future there? Yes, certainly there is, says so the numbers! According to the IAMAI (Internet & Mobile Association of India), 60% of the Indian Population surfing Internet access Internet from mobile.
Also, India today has about 42 million 3rd gen mobile connections offering faster data downloads, according to the telecom industry regulator.
Looking at the booming mobile industry, we shouldn’t be surprised if all the businesses go ‘Only Mobile’ in coming years.
