Amazon collaborates with Indian Railways!

After the collaboration with Yebhi.com failed, IRCTC has been looking to collaborate with another ecommerce giant. It’s just been a year when the IRCTC has been in talks with Flipkart and Amazon. The result is – Amazon has won the deal.

Why the Collaboration?

The collaboration has left the common man confused and questioning – Why the collaboration? When it comes to traffic, the Indian Railways has plenty of it. But when it comes to average revenue per user the company is not happy with the numbers. This is why the government body was looking to tie up with an ecommerce giant and sell some ad space to generate better revenue.

Is this a Smart Decision?

Definitely Yes! Not just the IRCTC, but also Amazon is going to see some boom in the traffic in coming months. And who knows, even the sales number would skyrocket.

The smarter thing on the IRCTC’s part was to stick to offering their customers exactly the same service yet add just another monetization channel to their kitty.

How’s the Collaboration benefiting IRCTC?

Amazon is paying IRCTC commission for the traffic government website will be giving to this ecommerce giant.

How does this work?

With this collaboration, the ‘Affiliate’ System seems to have gone a bit too far. As soon as the user comes to Amazon via IRCTC, the IRCTC logo will appear on the etailer’s site for 24 hours. The commission will depend on the basis of transactions carried on Amazon within that particular hour. Once the cookies expire, even if the shopping continues, no amount will be paid to IRCTC.

What’s our POV?

Such collaborations should happen often. They not just benefit the companies, but also the common man. What if the collaboration gives us the benefit of buying rail tickets on Amazon, delivered it to our home and pay nothing extra for it? Wouldn’t that save us lots of ‘Sweat in the Queue’ and ‘Waiting List’ hassle?
