Sports apparel and accessories selling fast online
Cricket is the almost as important as religion in India and with the upcoming ICC World Cup, ecommerce is reaping the benefits of this cricket frenzy. Myntra has tied up with Nike to offer a sports merchandise kit exclusively for customers shopping online. Nike is the official kit sponsor for the Indian team which makes its products extremely popular with customers.
Nike India’s marketing director Avinash Pant says, “Since the launch of the new Team India kit, we have received great response from cricket fans in India.
Sports merchandise seems to be very popular online. Atul Srivastava managing partner, Gaames Unlimited explains the popularity, “The merchandise went online this January and sales have picked up from 20 orders a day to 300 orders a day. Overseas people wear sports merchandise even when they are not seeing the game in the stadium. We want to create that culture in India, where one can wear these products to party, office and even while watching at home rather than just wearing them to stadium.”
The most popular product on ICC India’s online shop and ESPN Cricinfo is an impressive gold foil print Indian Retro T-shirt (in 1992 World Cup, when for the first time coloured jersey was worn by all teams with different colours having same pattern)and also a range of caps.
Step to success
With fashion apparel ruling the roost in ecommerce presently, it is no surprise that apparel merchandise is popular online. For sellers who want to enter this product category, selling unique sports merchandise could help with cutting the competition because there are not many others who are selling the same team’s shirt or caps for example.
