In yet another move in Amazon’s long drawn battle with tax officials, the company has been asked to remove all of its goods from warehouses. This is following the seller’s non-response to the government’s cancellation notice issues a few weeks earlier.
According to Ritvik Pandey, Karanataka’s newly appointed commercial taxes commissioner, ‘there has been no progress’ on the non-response issue. ‘According to Karnataka’s VAT laws, sellers cannot show more than one place of business for tax purposes,’ he said. The government’s order to remove the goods now seems justified.
It seems like the non-response of the notices sent to the sellers has been the main trigger of this new step taken by the government officials.
With the government tax department in Karnataka and Amazon India playing a new move in this match almost every week, all we can do is wait and watch.
