The Great Online Shopping Festival 2014 has started with a bang. Despite having extremely successful sales across all sections, there seems to be one clear winner that emerges – the 299 corner! This is a range of products like electronics, fashion apparel etc., all priced at or below Rs 299.
According to reports by analytic firms, the Rs 299 corner is working “extremely well” across categories. According to customer interactions on online shopping community DesiDime, The marketplaces that seem to be garnering the most success are Jabong, Shopclues, Amazon and Snapdeal.
Now that the first ceremonious day of the popular sale has passed by, let’s have a look at how it fared on Day One:
Some interesting points to note are:
- The average order value is nearly double the value on regular days
- Hyderabad and Chennai are now not far behind from other metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore that were already crazy about online shopping
- Fashion is one of the leading product categories but over three-fourths of online shoppers are men…well, what does that say about the ‘girls love shopping for clothes/ shoes’ myth?
- The top 5 leading retailers are hosted on online marketplaces and are not independent online stores
