It’s official.

The Great Online Shopping Festival 2014 powered by Google was a huge success this year. Coming right from the horse’s mouth, Google has said that the GOSF sale has “exceeded wildest expectations”.

According to Google India Managing Director Rajan Anandan, “The GOSF has exceeded the wildest of our expectations with the response that we have had to GOSF.”

CashKaro.com summarized all that happened during the GOSF sale this year with the below infographic:

Our experts onboard have some interesting insights to share:

  • It seems like customers are very enthusiastic about making purchases for less than Rs 5000, probably sellers can take a cue.
  • The average order value is about double the normal days- but probably it’s the cheaper prices that has caused an unnatural increase in volume of goods sold.
  • All 5 top performing retailers are running on the marketplace model- like independent online stores are not too popular.
  • Mobile & Electronics and Fashion are the leading categories.

As the curtains close on India’s biggest online sale, the industry is extremely positive about the success of the sale from this year forward.

According to Rohan Bhargava, co-founder of India’s largest cashback & coupons site CashKaro.com,  “The Great Online Shopping Festival (GOSF) by Google has evidently given an impetus to the growing e-commerce industry in India. Retailers offered some never seen before deals across product categories with Rs 299 corner and Exclusive launch section being the highlight of the shopping festival. Taking a tip from the recent online shopping festivals, retailers were definitely better prepared in order to handle higher site traffic and consumers did not face any major technological glitches as such. We at CashKaro.com saw a splurge in traffic by 450 per cent and 350 per cent increase in revenues during GOSF. The average order value also doubled as compared to normal days. With the success of GOSF this year, the stakes for next year are set to be even higher.”

Goodbye GOSF, see you next year!
