Looks like it’s not just the entrepreneur biggies who want to be on board the ecommerce bandwagon. A first for the superstar, Shah Rukh Khan has been signed on the fashion etailer, Yepme’s brand ambassador. As per the deal, he will be able to pick up a stake in the company later.
“This is the first time that I am endorsing an online fashion brand and I am very excited to partner with Yepme for this,” King Khan said in a statement.
“For fashion to be impactful, it has to evolve with time and maintain freshness. Yepme, with its focus on fast fashion is an extremely innovative and fashion right brand, offering the most current fashion trends. I look forward to join the fashion revolution that they have started which is taking the youth across the country by storm,” he added.
Yepme faces tough competition from Myntra (which is a part of Flipkart) and Jabong (by Rocket Internet). Once finalized, it is expected to secure funding worth $30 million from four investors, which includes its existing investors also like Helion Venture Partners and Capricorn Venture Partners.
Yepme offers private brands on its platform. A new multi-media advertising campaign is being planned featuring SRK with plans to shell out Rs 15-20 crore for the same. Online sales of fashion and apparel products are estimated to be worth a billion dollars, with the sales of electronics and mobiles very close.
It certainly has been a rough ride for Yepme the past few months with multiple efforts to raise capital. Co-founder Sandeep Sharma told TOI that raising capital from domestic investors is a big challenge and that’s why they ventured beyond the borders to find investors. “In July, we started exploring investors outside India and that’s when things started to fall in place,” he said.
