Snapdeal to aid the growth of small and medium businesses; ties up with NIESBUD

To boost the growth of micro, medium and small enterprises (MSMEs) which are many in number spread across the country, India’s leading online marketplace Snapdeal has partnered with the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) to empower MSMEs with entrepreneurial skills.

NIESBUD is an apex body under Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, that is dedicated to train, consult and do research for promoting entrepreneurial skills of MSMEs.

In August this year, NSIC (National Small Industries Corporation Ltd.) launched msmeshopping.com, an ecommerce portal to promote and aid the growth of small-scale industries and industry related small-scale services/business enterprises.

How will Snapdeal and NIESBUD help MSMEs?

The collaboration between Snapdeal and NIESBUD means the following for MSMEs:

  • Encouragement and support to enter the online selling space.
  • Evaluation of potential to enter the ecommerce space.
  • Training and consultancy will be imparted to budding online sellers.
  • They will be able to sell on Snapdeal with special concessions and facilities through NIESBUD.

Talking about the tie-up, Rohit Bansal, co-founder and COO of Snapdeal said, “We are thrilled to sign an MOU with NIESBUD. With this, we are now further promoting entrepreneurship and digitally enabling small and medium sized businesses in India. Partnering with NIESBUD provides us with a large platform to together create opportunities for Indian entrepreneurs and build successful businesses by selling online.”

Mirroring the sentiment, Arun Kumar Jha, Director General, NIESBUD added, “We are happy to partner with Snapdeal.com. The brand is already pioneering in the field of empowering small and medium sized businesses, and fits in well with our cause. With this tie-up we aim to reach out to a new set of audiences.”

“The eCommerce platform will promote virtual clusters – a unique initiative by the Ministry of MSME to make available all the important information regarding various schemes and benefits for MSME under a single umbrella,” stated Bansal.

Will MSMEs benefit?

Many a times, businesses and businessmen are not able to enter the online selling space despite having the potential for it. Inadequate means or knowledge or expertise could be one of the many reasons for this.

However, the tie-up between Snapdeal and NIESBUD will help them in multiple ways:

  • Their businesses can be grown digitally with the expertise and training that will be given to them.
  • Around 500 enterprises per month are expected to be taken under their wing, which means everyone can have a chance and go at online selling.

Snapdeal will promote NIESBUD’s training programmes with its seller base and encourage them to opt for these. This is also in line with Snapdeal’s aim to have a seller base of 1,00,000 by the end of this year.
