Fashionara launches F.Lea Bazaar, its own e-marketplace

Yet another portal has changed its business model to accommodate the requirements from consumers looking to buy different stuff online. While some are moving away from the marketplace model, like Yebhi shifted from online marketplace to product discovery platform, online fashion portal Fashionara has launched an e-marketplace section called F.lea Bazaar.

F.Lea Bazaar

With F.Lea Bazaar, Fashionara will now work on the hybrid marketplace model and not an inventory led model. Quirky and out-of-the-box products and accessories would be offered by niche sellers who may not have any branding as such but sell through stalls/fairs and other online platforms like Facebook.

With tie-ups with 200 sellers and small boutique owners currently, Fashionara hopes to have 500 sellers on board by Diwali. The range of 15,000+ products include quirky home products, stationery, fancy accessories, funky footwear, bags, apparel etc.

Arun Sirdeshmukh, Co-founder and CEO, Fashionara said, “We thought if we could get the best of these sellers to sell online, we could satisfy the needs of a large number of our customers, add a lot of variety to what we offer on Fashionara as well as enable flea merchants to sell their products pan India.”

A good move by Fashionara?

Arvind Singhal, chairman of retail advisory firm Technopak, said, “There is no risk of inventory-related costs. There is more choice for customers and little or no working capital requirement in the marketplace model, which makes it a good opportunity.”

Flea markets are always interesting and find popularity with the masses. But the concept at large is not as explored in India as it is abroad. Especially online platforms offering quirky products are not many in number in India.

Instead of continuing to be just another fashion portal, this could differentiate Fashionara from other bigger players like Mynra and Jabong. The idea is interesting and by the looks of it, could click with consumers.

How big would the success be? Will others like Myntra and Jabong follow suit?
