In a growing online marketplace scenario, it is very important for marketplaces to connect with the merchants on their platform in order to keep the constructive feedback going from both ends. Most Indian marketplaces are lacking this part of the experience and not connecting very well with their merchants.
One e-commerce marketplace is however actively trying to connect with its sellers. Shopclues, a young marketplace which deals in popular e-commerce categories like electronics, clothing, jewellery etc. has announced its second seller meet which is to be held in Mumbai on the 23rd of August. This is the follow up to the successful first meet which was held in June in Delhi.
Here are some images of their previous seller meet.
This is great for online merchants as they could use this platform to voice out their opinions, give feedback and express their grievances and issues directly with the folks from the company.
Here are some of the topics that sellers could discuss with the Shopclues folks at the conference.
1. Indian e-commerce has been largely reliant on deals to push sales. Although it does make sense to do this on order to get volumes, this is limited to a few large sellers. Small and medium size sellers cannot afford to follow this model. Sellers should thus get a clearer picture from Shopclues about how they and the marketplace can engineer moves which can boost sales organically.
2. While improvements in technology have made it possible for sellers to reach out directly to their customers online, it has so happened that many sellers do not have sufficient knowledge of the technological improvements that happen on the marketplace backend and how they affect sales. Sellers should ask Shopclues to published detailed reports on this front regularly so that they can get updated and use this knowledge to increase their sales and grow their online business.
3. Another problem being faced by many sellers on the Shopclues marketplace is that they face a lot confusion over the complicated and unnecessary order statuses that the platform keeps generating. Sellers should demand a simplification from the company, so that both the company and the sellers are on the same page when they look at order statuses.
4. Finally, Shopclues’ Mumbai Packing and Fulfillment centre has many delivery related issues. Many sellers have complained that the centre delays the shipping of their products inspite of the sellers sending their products on time. Sellers should get the Shopclues folks to address this problem during the meet.
