Snapdeal unveils ‘Snapdeal Ads’, opportunity for sellers to increase sales

It appears that our Indian ecommerce biggies idolize Alibaba’s Jack Ma a bit too much and are keen to replicate the Chinese entrepreneur’s success in India. While Paytm is joined at hip with Alibaba, other etailers like Flipkart and Amazon are focusing on its advertising platform to create a new revenue channel just like the Chinese marketplace leader.

Latest to roll out its adverting platform is Snapdeal.

Snapdeal Ads makes an entry

Earlier this year, Flipkart had acquired Adiquity to launch its own advertising platform. And now, rival Snapdeal has dived in the same ocean with Snapdeal Ads.

At present, the marketplace will explore native advertising format, which will be spread across desktop site, mobile site and app. Gradually, the company will introduce banner ads and other tools of advertising. A report stated that rates charged by Snapdeal for ads start from Rs 1,000.

Sellers in the line to reap benefits

While this new addition will act as a new source of revenue for the online marketplace, it will also provide sellers an effective medium to reach more customers and drive sales.

Snapdeal’s Chief Product Officer, Anand Chandrasekaran shared, “The advertising tools will help our over-two lakh strong seller community simplify their business journey and boost overall revenue as more users discover their products.”

The company realized that many small sellers don’t have the bandwidth or knowledge about promoting their products. Hence, this advertising platform will enable those sellers to stand out minus the hassle.

Vishal Chadha, Senior VP- Marketing Development, Snapdeal revealed, “Engaging with sellers at various points of their business journey, we’ve realized that lack of marketing expertise or investments for elaborate promotions are some of the recurring concerns for their business. Snapdeal Ads platform addresses these through simplified advertisement panel that is integrated into the seller tools they already use today.”

In today’s competitive world, online marketplaces are investing heavily in advertising on offline mediums. So, it is inevitable that sellers will have to do the same, on a small scale at least. What’s great is that marketplaces are making ready platforms available to sellers that help to grab more eyeballs and boost sales.
