Myntra is all set to kick up a storm with the launch of the newest version of the app. The latest version, which will be called Myntra V2, will give its shoppers the feel of shopping at a mall. The company has ambitious plans to double its Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) from the current $ 500 million to $ 1 billion by 2016.
Myntra wants its shoppers to have an experience similar to that of shopping at a mall. Chief Technology and Product officer of Myntra, Shamik Sharma said, “People don't like to shop in a deserted mall; we are trying to emulate a social shopping experience online. Every Myntra user will see a different version of the app based on their likes.”
Sharma said “You can't showcase fashion in the same way you display washing machines online. We will build and evolve our own features.” Myntra will be using parent company Flipkart’s tech features like image search and chat tool to suit a fashion market. The new version will retain existing features and will continue to be of the same size of 10 MB. Sharma maintains that Myntra will use a combination of Flipkart’s data centres and cloud service providers to run the app.
The ‘new and improved’ Myntra will be tailor displayed for individual shoppers. Based on the shopper’s social media activity, such as Facebook or Google Plus, a different version will be displayed.
Myntra is doing its best to refurbish its sheen. It has to contend with a host of unhappy customers post its app only move. Hopefully the new version will remove bugs that exist in the earlier version.
