Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal Festive Sales still going strong

Day 3 of the biggest festive season sales just wrapped up yesterday. One look at the sales stats and you would wonder if there ever was an economic slowdown. Ecommerce leaders Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal are breaking records every single day and in every product category.

Day 3 highlights of Amazon’s The Great Indian Festive Sale

Amazon’s festive sale has been growing from strength to strength. While Day 2 created many records, Day 3 was no less either.

  • It marked the biggest day ever in the history of the Mobile Phones category and witnessed a 3X growth
  • Luggage was the top selling category for Amazon Fashion
  • Beauty category grew three-fold as compared to Diwali 2014 and achieved the highest sale since launch
  • Pet Supplies witnessed a 4X growth, with dog treat being the most popular sub-category.
  • All top deals got sold out in less than 30 minutes of going live

Flipkart sells a staggering 5 lakh mobile phones in 10 hours

Yesterday IOS shared how Flipkart’s Chief Business Officer, Ankit Nagori was confident ahead of its mobile phones category sale, and he was right. The etailer sold 5 lakh handsets in 10 hours!

  • It’s a record for the highest number of handsets sold in India in a short span of ten hours, including online and offline platforms
  • Maximum sales generated from Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai
  • Huge spike in traffic from tier II cities like Coimbatore, Indore, Jaipur, Nagpur, and Vishakhapatnam was also witnessed
  • 75 % of the mobile handsets sold during this period were 4G phones

Snapdeal has shipped more than 5 million orders

While we have been hearing a lot about Flipkart and Amazon’s impressive sales, little information has got out so far about Snapdeal. But right on the cue, Anand Chandrasekaran, Chief Product Officer at Snapdeal, disclosed its mega Diwali sale’s performance on social media platform, Twitter.

  • More than 5 million orders shipped and 98.9% shipped within 24 hours of order placement
  • 350% increase in new users compared to last year
  • More than 70,000 units of home décor & furniture shipped in 3 days
  • Over 5 million app downloads on the very first day of the festive season
  • Revenue increased by 17X

Race for the last leg – Amazon VS Flipkart VS Snapdeal

With 2 more days to go before the festive sale ends, ecommerce companies are doing everything in their power to increase their revenue.

Amazon is concentrating on introducing more attractive deals & discounts. The company has lined up many interesting deals for Day 4.

Flipkart has gone a step ahead as founder members, Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal along with other top executives from the company are personally going to deliver orders. While speaking about the basic idea behind this move, Binny Bansal said, “We want to learn more about the market, customers and understand what the need is for the future also to thank them.”

On the other hand, Snapdeal is being sassy by taking a dig at its rivals Amazon, and Flipkart. First, Chandrasekaran made a sarcastic remark over Flipkart’s app-only sale and then the company released a print ad mocking its competitors.
