Sellers are being wooed and how! In the recent times, marketplaces such as Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal have wholly understood the importance of sellers. And thus all the big etailers are introducing new programs to support existing sellers and entice the new ones.
Our country boasts of a Prime Minister who was once a chaiwala (tea seller). And chai is again in focus with Amazon starting its ‘Chai Cart’ program to reach SMEs in Bengaluru.
Rohit Kulkarni, Senior Manager – New Initiatives at Amazon India shared, “We realised that (the Indian seller base) is not as evolved or as sophisticated like other markets, therefore a lot of focus and investment from our side is going into these initiatives.” Peter George, Director – Sales & Account Management at Amazon said in one his interviews, “We wish to connect with thousands of sellers scattered around the city on the enormous ecommerce opportunity.”
This initiative will see trained Amazon executives driving four wheeler mobile-carts around streets of small cities and towns talking to small & local sellers, and entrepreneurs with an intention to get them on-board. This unique awareness drive is chalked out to meet the impending festival peak time demand.
Flipkart introduced ‘Flipkart One Stop’ to assist merchants in registration, packaging, training, and cataloguing process.
Chief Business Officer of Flipkart said, “This new initiative will help them streamline and simplify the processes to get their businesses up and running online within a short span of time.”
Currently, the service is available in cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Surat. The etailer has tied up with agencies such as Browntape to help with the seller on-boarding & training process for this initiative.
Etailer Snapdeal too has started many such seller support programs in the past couple of months. In July this year, the ecommerce giant had made provisions for instant loans for its sellers. Around the same time the company entered rural India with assisted ecommerce and also re-launched Shopo, to present a zero commission mobile platform to its sellers.
It is a good thing that sellers are getting the much needed attention and are in line to receive all the support they need to run their digital store.
