Snapdeal buys Martmobi to enhance its mobile platform

We told you how Snapdeal is looking to acquire at least ten companies this financial year. True to their word, the ecommerce giant just bought Martmobi, a Hyderabad based technology startup for an undisclosed amount.

Founder of Martmobi, Satya Krishna Ganni said, “Mobile is the way forward and all our efforts will be directed towards creating world class mobile technology at Snapdeal.”

What’s Martmobi

Martmobi is a mobile commerce platform for online stores, brands and merchants. It helps to build customized native apps & mobile sites for both Android and iOS. Founded by Pramod Nair and Sathya Krishna Ganni, Martmobi made news last year when it was selected for the world’s most renowned accelerator program — TechStars.

How will it help Snapdeal

M-shopping is on a growth spree as the number of smartphone users is growing rapidly. Thus for every ecommerce player, strengthening their mobile presence by building flawless mobile site and/or app has become a priority.

Snapdeal receives nearly 75 per cent of their order from mobile platform. This presents a great challenge for merchants as real-time inventory management can be tricky. With this acquisition, Snapdeal will enable its sellers to manage their inventory, product listings and transactions on mobile platform effectively.

Prior to Martmobi, Snapdeal had acquired Freecharge at the beginning of this FY. While Freecharge still operates independently, Martmobi will be merged completely with Snapdeal’s operations.
