Flipkart Grocery Service to Broadens its Service to 1,800 Cities In India

Flipkart, the Walmart-owned and India’s homegrown eCommerce giant, has decided to extend its grocery operations to serve consumers across Tier 2 and Tier 3 plus cities. The service is being offered in the swing in the towns including Ajmer, Amritsar, Bhuj, Bokaro, Daman & Diu, Dehradun, Kanyakumari, and more. In a company release, the company has announced the delivery of its Grocery operations across 23 states by catering to the needs of millions of residents from the 1,800 cities and over 10,000 PIN Codes. In its new venture, the company offers purchase options to buyers from a selection of over 6,000 products and much more, added in the release from Flipkart.

According to the company, Flipkart  has continuously invested an enormous sum of money in establishing the primary line of service over the past two years. Flipkart launched a pilot program in Bengaluru, aiming to foray into the grocery segment. To strengthen its prominence in the category, the company has already established over 22 pan-India grocery fulfilment centres to have embarked on to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for giving the necessary boost to generate local employment.

In addition, the expansion is expected to flourish local farmers by offering a platform to become an indispensable part of the digital economy. With a fresh wave of COVID-19 sprawling in the country, Flipkart Grocery provides a safe option to let consumers purchase fresh groceries from the comforts of their homes.

“ The company is committed to bringing the remarkable shopping experience to consumers across the country. The new move will strengthen the company’s selection while investing in FPOs and fresh produce to scale up the entire supply chain,” said Smrithi Ravichandran, Vice President, Flipkart Grocery.

The company's efforts have helped Flipkart to enjoy the fruits of success during the year’s The Big Billion Day event. Notably, the Grocery category saw consumers register up to 200 new cities marking their first purchases on Flipkart. The Flipkart Grocery has seen a massive rise in traffic from Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, NCR, Patna, and Pune. This category has grown overall up to 2.3 times in orders and revenue compared to last year’s performance.

According to the published data in the recently published Flipkart-Bain report known by the title, ‘How India Shops Online 2021', the company's Grocery segment registered an increased acceleration while is expected to experience leap-bound growth in a post-pandemic era. To make the rising number intact, the company ensures to maintain the high-quality while placing stringent controls across its fulfilment centres and its Grocery supply chain. Flipkart's Grocery fulfilment centres are made completely digital and qualify to allow excellent products that could be traceable from the raw state until they reach the final destination or consumer.
