After both Amazon India and Flipkart launched same day delivery offerings, eCommerce marketplace, SnapDeal has also launched its same day delivery program. The program currently covers select areas such as Delhi and NCR. Buyers will get their product delivered on the same day if they place their order before 1 pm during the day.
Also, the service is not available for all products, just certain categories like electronics, general merchandise and fashion. Another important thing to note is that the service is being provided by SnapDeal with no extra charges compared to Flipkart and Amazon India.
While it is good that ecommerce companies in the country are offering same day deliveries, it still remains to be seen if it is a financially viable model both in free and paid conditions. How many people will like to get their products delivered as fast as possible? It actually depends on the urgency. For example, I could wait for a week if I had to buy a Tshirt online but I would require a mobile phone urgently, in case mine was lost. It still remains to be seen if same day delivery will be come a defacto standard for shipping in India or whether it could prove to be a good option when there is an urgent need.
