Snapdeal sellers retaliate, miffed with the etailer’s unjust penalties

Online Marketplace, Snapdeal which currently has around 250,000 merchants selling on its platform has brought out a number of initiatives over the last 12 months to positively impact them.

We now hear that Snapdeal has de-listed 23 sellers, as they were apparently found carrying out unethical business practices. The punishment was based on analytical data gathered from Snapdeal’s new portal interface. The new interface not only resolves disputes, but also allows Snapdeal to manage the seller payment cycle more effectively.

“Sellers are a crucial part of Snapdeal’s ecosystem and we believe that our sellers play a critical role in creating a great experience for our customers. We are continuously working towards creating an enabling environment for these entrepreneurs. At Snapdeal, we are extensively using technology to improve the experience for our sellers- our seller UI upgrades, including Sherpalo are continuing efforts in this direction,” said Anup Vikal, CFO, Snapdeal.

Sellers take to Social Media to vent frustration

Snapdeal Sellers are using facebook, twitter and WhatsApp to shout about the reported wrongs against them by the online marketplace. The sellers claim that Snapdeal withheld inventory and also charged fines for minor issues such as broken goods or delays. Worse still some sellers are reported to have had money deducted for prior overpayments made by the marketplace, without any warning.

  • A seller accused of selling fake goods was penalised despite reportedly carrying out 8 crores worth of business on Snapdeal.
  • A seller who has visited the Snapdeal headquarters to protest has now launched a Facebook group called ‘The Ecommerce Hustle’.
  • The sellersuraksha.com website has also been created by another bemused seller.
  • A Jaipur based seller Sanjay Thakur who runs Cyber Space has started a WhatsApp group, to reach out to other Snapdeal sellers.

“If Snapdeal can charge them so heavily for minor mistakes, then even the sellers should be able to penalize Snapdeal for the mistakes from the company’s end,” said Sanjay.

On Twitter sellers have tried to establish contact with Snapdeal’s SoftBank investors Nikesh Arora and Masayoshi Son. Ratan Tata who has ploughed funds into Snapdeal was also contacted. Snapdeal CEO Kunal Bahl among other executives were communicated through email, by the sellers.

        I am facing new kind of issue I used to sell on snapdeal but I changed my vat no 3 months back.. They told me to create new account with new mobile no.. idiots.. And when I created the account they are not allowing my products saying that they are fake even after submitting registered licence off company they are asking me for homeopathy license hahaha… And my category is beauty which it’s registered under central government.. ib really don’t understand how other sellers are surviving…I lost hope Ro bee live again on there website because I cannot make homeopathy license for shampoo hahaha.. God work guys.. Happy to see all sellers together

          They are full of idiots. and the policy makers are not SD friends they are Enemies for SD.

          Those are selling FAKE product have all the guts to provide Brand authorization letter even the Company does not allow to sell online or provided any letter.

          If anyone wants to see a CHEAP and USELESS marketplace on earth, Award should go to Snapdeal.

We all seller fertinity is badly exploited by SD. Crors of Rs.of Poor Sellers is Stuck with SD. Heights of Dictatorship, the only thing SD has to do is to Hang the Sellers. AM,s are the Lawyers, Top Management are the Judges they themselves decides and impose Irrational Penalties on poor Sellers, Kunal Bahl is now left to hang the Sellers.

    If any Seller Fails to mark the Return within 3 Days, and comes to mark even the 4th Day, SD Refuses to pay saying out of TAT and they holded money saying “We have paid Xtra 3 Yrs.Ago” Now where is TAT. IsTAT a copywrite of SD?? They deduct/ Hold Any Amount anytime without any notice/ Intimation without giving proper reasons then where is TAT.

    SD himself involved in provoking the sellers to do self buying in order to increase the GMV to attract the investor and then after puts penalty on returns and very high penalty on self buying.. ..

    SD+ is the main Gadd for SD to manipulate the funds And Inventories of Sellers. The moment Sellers send it’s stocks in their warehouse it’s the start of his bad phase and days.

    Till the time the seller is a small ticket size seller,SD help them to grow and as soon as he grows and scale up his volumes with SD he started greetings penalties and fake debits in his account.

      It’s Cheatersdeal @Snapdeal. Read it and share to save innocent entrepreneurs and sellers. Each e-Marketplace has the same policy of looting to their own seller. Avoid them (Snapdeal, Flipkart, Shopclues, Askmebazar, PayTM) and alert online sellers. I have stopped selling in all e-marketplaces after experiencing their loot. All market places treat seller as Ex-Tihar Jail resident or younger brother of Charles Sobhraj. If someone raises his voice against their loot, they threatens for criminal proceedings on fake/false charges.

    They have the worst sellers help team. They just send standard replies and are very desperate to close the ticket even without providing a proper resolution.

    For some of the orders, we didn’t receive our return shipment for which we raised dispute. We raised dispute for 12 orders, and they gave us POD for only 1 order, that too a different order for which we didn’t raise dispute. And then they resolved the ticket. I reopened the ticket multiple times, but got below response everytime “Thank You for writing to us. As informed in our previous email your case cannot be entertained for the stated reasons. The decision remains final and any further consideration cannot be made.”

    Looks like they want to take away sellers money to fulfill their losses.

    First of all thanks to IOS to bring this issue and the chance to share our sad stories with SD.
    We are with SD for past 4 months we do average business about 5L per month. Last month we shocked after seeing the seller panel’s payment section. It was showing that -93,000. Means we have to pay to SD. We started digging the accounts and found that SD put unacceptable penalties for the false complaints. We sell electronics & computer peripherals. Few of them are costly products. Most of the returns happen for such products. We doubt someone in SD / it’s courier partners replacing the new product with old products and returning to us. We have logged complaints with SD for more than 50 such cheating cases. But most of simply rejected by so called sellers help team. We use to provide all the proofs like purchase bills with products serial numbers, products weight at the time of shipping and returned products photo, weight, serial numbers. POD copy photos, etc., to prove that we had sent correct products. But, the SD blindly, unethically, illogically, madly, cheaply deny the claim. We struggle to get the reasons for deny. We beg them to give evidences against us. But, the answer is always rude and unacceptable, it’s just “we are sorry, we can’t consider your request”.

    Also, we found most of the claims they accepted for refund, they are telling just to close the ticket for time being. We found may cases they charged penalties instead of refund.

    Another interesting cheating by SD is, randomly deducting higher commissions than actual. For a single memory card, they were charging shipping cost around 120 rupees. The product selling price is just 249 rupees!

    We found unknown charges for 6 transactions which were settled 2 payments ago that time itself they deduced all the charges. Mailed them to Sd and they’re not telling the reason but accepted for refund within next 2 payment cycle.

    To say simply, SD cheats it’s sellers with its bad return policies, illiterate sellers help team, cheating accounts team, etc.

    Giving more sales, charging highest commissions, more unacceptable returns, plenty false complaints, more losses!!!

    My sincere advice to the existing sellers, pls check all your previous payment statements – you will be really shocked!! All new upcoming sellers- beware of Snapdeal! Set your mind for losses! Appoint an auditor to track each and every order & payment.

    • I have never been an active seller on Snapdeal, but was seriously thinking of taking snapdeal seriously and started uploading my catalouge there since last few months.
      But looking at your experience i have stopped giving more products to them.
      Apart i am a member of couple of whatsapp and facebook groups too, where sellers are all giving complaints similar to yours.

      If you have lost money, there is an easy solution. JUST FILE A POLICE COMPLAINT AGAINST THE CEO FOR FRAUD. Its not a difficult process, especially in India. If 75 Lakhs have been blocked by Snapdeal, Give cop a couple of lakhs, and he will arrest even Kunal’s family and neighbours. Then find a lawyer and make a simple application in the consumer court for fraud by Snapdeal. It just takes around Rs 3000, as a total cost. If you are true, and Snapdeal Looses the case, you get that money back too.

        Lodging a complaint is easy, but the process after is miserable. Who wants to waste their time & money on lawyers etc etc!!

        These eCommerce sites constantly change their policies and even manipulate their own policies for their benefit.

        I really hope some one should take this step (i can’t because i cannot afford my time and money), but if one is ready to go this far, i will definitely stand!

    They put heavy and inappropriate penalties for the orders placed by from the seller city sating that this was self buying and then commit to pay the penalty so and we will activate your account back.
    After we give acknowledgement, they say we never said that.

    Keep aside the profits, i am not even making money of i have invested.

    This is all because of one main reason THEIR RETURN policies. Their return policies doesn’t have the OPTIONS like Amazon has, it is always a seller fault, if customer return the product no matter what. and option of WRONG product received is so ridiculous, why on the earth will a seller sends a wrong product to the buyer in the first place?

    Their moto is nothing but to loot the seller by creating un-ethical policies. The tag line for snapdeal is a act of terrorism.

    Its shocking to hear that so many sellers were duped of Lakhs of rupees. An issue which came into focus, was a few sellers were involved in self buying! Frankly its not a crime! Well sellers would not do it if Snapdeal did not go on with the Unethical practice of subsidizing products and selling it below MRP, while paying sellers full price. This harms the overall industry, while Snapdeal uses free money to increase sales, just by making them cheap artificially, while genuine retailers lose money.

    Now people who have lost money, there is an easy solution. JUST FILE A POLICE COMPLAINT AGAINST THE CEO FOR FRAUD. Its not a difficult process, especially in India. If 75 Lakhs have been blocked by Snapdeal, Give cop a couple of lakhs, and he will arrest even Kunal’s family and neighbours. If you are true, and Snapdeal Looses the case, you get that money back too. Recently a kid who purchased an Iphone for Rs 68, was refused delivery by Snapdeal, he went to the court, and guess what, they had to give him the phone along with legal expenses, and fine.
    So don’t be fearful, get a lawyer (There are 100’s of them, just look around), and spend a little bit of money , if you want to stop Snapdeal getting away wwith your hard earned money.

    As told before by various other sellers, I have also had similar experience with snapdeal. I am a manufacturer of Bags (backpacks,Duffel bags, accessories and Duffle trolley bags) . Over a year ago i had a got a return for one of my products claiming it was of a damaged piece, after opening the package i discovered that the product returned was not mine, i raised a claim on sellers panel but they REJECTED IT. Can anyone make me understand why i would send a wrong product to a customer of my own brand ?, and guess what they penalized me for this. I got pissed with them and stopped selling any of my costly items on Snapdeal, which ultimately lead to making my inventory to be zero for majority of my products. Happily selling on Flipkart, amazon and Paytm. They are much better.

    I have been selling on snapdeal since last 12 months. our sales were gud until SD+ arrives at our door. The guy from snapdeal forces us to opt for SD+, then we started loosing sales. Because SD’s PO raising process is too lengthy. So for 20-30 days many of our top selling products were showing out of stock and we started losing sales big time.

    Another big issue is charging over shipping charges for even smallest of product. They are charging us rs. 150..00 courier charges for a woolen cap that weighs only 75 grams. This is just too much.

    snapdeal is a cheating and unethical company.
    We were selling on snapdeal and have incurred a loss of 20-25 lacs due to following 2 reasons –
    In invoices received from them , we were put debit for product return.but products never came back.
    The other reason , products returned came back in such damaged condition, that we are saddled with such returned goods worth 10 lacs.
    No claims were entertained by sellers support, by giving incredulous reasons,
    I will quote a simple example, we sold televisions , TV brackets never came back . when we raised a claim, the answer we got was that as per snapdeal website, stand is standard accessory, so why did we send the stand.
    I have been following up with everyone at snapdeal , have written atleast 10 mails to kunal bahl , but no response.
    I wish to drag snapdeal to court .
    Let us all aggreived sellers of snapdeal get together and collectively take some joint action.

    NO:1 Terrorist site on planet earth. everything from listing items to uploading manifest(in the year of 2016) we still have to take pain in uploading manifests to proove that we really shipped the items. it’s a big joke. images if we have to scan and upload 100 manifests each day!!

    No response from so called seller support when i raised the complaint for wrongly charged commission. but interestingly i got replies to all concerns but NOT a singly reply for my query regarding wrong commission.

    This site is next to Hitler (i don’t have any bad to say about Hitler, atleast he had some good to some) but this site i guess is Anti-Christ !

    I am selling on snapdeal since 2 years on snapdeal.
    Last 8 months they have made false fines and eaten all profit and even product costing.

    Around 8 to 10 orders were marked as returned from background in their last software update and
    we raised the query and get the same response in 45 days you will received item.
    Snapdeal is a cheater and we have already lost a lot.
    We regret putting our efforts in creating in listing items – their qc team is hopeless and
    sits on listing information for weeks and keeps us on toes.

    Its seems they are a sarkri company and all resources are sarkari.. and poor communication.
    Still its 5 months we didn’t received back get back items worth Rs 2000 and we are frustrated of sending them queries

    We did get few items back marked as return – customer comments – unhappy with the quality or Fake item –
    with a fine Rs250. We are selling an item of Rs 315 and how can you fine us with Rs 250 and not even listening to us.

    Fully agree with you all. We are a Leather goods brand – ADAMIS selling on a number of Marketplaces including Flipkart, Amazon, Ebay, Snapdeal, Jabong & Myntra.

    Out of all these, the most fair and just from the sellers point of view are Flipkart, Jabong and Myntra. Excellent seller resolution systems in place at all these. Worst are Snapdeal & Amazon.

    At Amazon, we have had an inventory of Rs. 79,000 that is missing from their FBA warehouse. We have put up a claim for the missing inventory with all the proofs, to date we have received only Rs. 10,000 as reimbursement and the remaining amount claim is under “consideration” for the last 90 days since March 2016.

    Recently we are having a terrible time with Snapdeal, wherein the customers are ordering our high value leather products and the returns being sent back to us are cheap, used old products of different brands other than ADAMIS. Snapdeal seller help is not responsive to our complaints, they are refunding the payment to the customer, deducting the payment for the return from our account and to top it, they are also deducting a high Wrong / Faulty product fee from our account. This is completely unfair as we are not getting our original product back, having payment deducted and also being made to pay penalty charges for no fault of ours eventhough we have sent the perfect product to the customer always. The websites are completely favouring the customers, to the extent that they are turning a blind eye to the fraud / cheating customers and always deducting all kinds of payments and high penalty charges only from the sellers.

    At Snapdeal, all the policies and systems are loaded completely against the sellers. This needs to change to make things fair for all. Currently it seems as if Snapdeal has a prejudice and pre conceived notion that all the faults and defects are the responsibility of the sellers. One very unfair rule at Snapdeal is in the return of the product. The customer is allowed 7 days to return the product if they do not want. The seller has to wait for a period of 60 days to receive the product from Snapdeal, before which he can not raise a dispute. The time durations are completely unfavourable to sellers. We have to stay without our own product and payment for 60 days after the customer has returned the product. Why so?

    At Snapdeal there is a major nexus at their delivery centre wherein we believe genuine products are being exchanged and either faulty , cheap products are being sent to the customer or sent to the sellers. Upon raising a dispute / query with their Seller help, the resolution is very erratic / random depending on the Seller help executive handling the case. Inspite of giving them all the documentary proof with photographs of the wrong product returns received by the seller, they are not willing to listen to the seller. They are deducting the full payment for the product as well as charging a penalty fee to the seller.

    Now they are forcing us to get on to SD+. When we have refused, they have gone and made all our top selling SKUs inactive from their end with a reason listing as ” move to SD+”. This is an unfair, monopolistic practice from Snapdeal that needs to be brought to the notice of the authorities.

    We had also invested in their Sponsored Ads program, only to find that our balance of Rs. 40,000 was completely wiped off when they migrated their Sponsored Ads program to V.2 platform, without any notice to us. Now they are trying to wash their hands off saying that they were free credits given by Snapdeal. Complete Cheating!!!

    In the present scenario, there is no relief for the seller, at the end of the day, sellers are only going to lose money after putting in all the efforts. With the high rate of returns, loss of products during returns and high penalty charges, there is hardly any profits to be made by sellers on Snapdeal.

    I am selling footwear on various eCommerce platforms, but its getting very difficult to work with snapdeal.
    The very expected reason is returns. we sell only branded footwear. But day by day we are getting more & more fake products in returns. instead of a 4000-5000 rs products we get a cheap local used dirty shoe in return.
    & snapdeal sellershelp says, customer has issue the complaint of WRONG PRODUCT RECEIVED & our quality check team found the same. So, we are getting pinched by 2 ways, 1. we lost our rs 4000 – 5000 product & 2. they impose a huge penalty of delivering wrong products. We have so little margins that we can not bare such penalties.
    Ultimately it seems, that its a loss working with SNAPDEAL.
    while we have already gave business of more than a crore business to Snapdeal, still they dont want to listen.
    i want to know how you people cope up with such kind of issues, how we should tackle with these issues. Huge payments are pending towards snapdeal. Daily we receive 2-3 fake products.
    so 3 important things need to know :
    1. who is the culprit
    2. who is the victim
    3 how we can save ourselves of this hurdle.

    YOU HAVE CHARGE ME UNEXPECTED AMOUNT WHICH IS NOT JUSTIFY I AM SMALLER SELLER WHO IS SELLING FROM LAST 8 MONTHS MY TOTAL TRANSACTION IN SNAPDEAL IS 8 LACK RUPEE IN WHICH I EARNED ONLY 10 PERCENT MARGIN AND I RECEIVE ONLY 5 LACK RUPEE AMOUNT IN 6 MONTHS AND 3 LACK IS PENDING WITH SNAPDEAL ALTHOUGH IN 6 MONTHS I EARNED ONLY 50 THOUSAND RUPEE.

    I ALSO ADD PROMOTION FUNDS WHICH IS 34 THOUSAND RUPEE FROM MY PROFIT SO I CAN PROMOTE MY PRODUCTS ON SNAPDEAL TODAY YOU MAKE ME FRAUD SELLER.

    PLEASE DON’T DO THIS TYPE OF THINGS WITH SMALL SELLERS HOW THEY WILL BECOME BIG SELLERS I HAVE TO RUN MY SMALL FAMILY FOR THIS BUSINESS I HAVE TAKE LOAN FROM BANK WITH LOT OF TRUST ON SNAPDEAL.

    Snapdeal is a big fraudent company, they always taking money from sellers using strange accounting methodes. understanding their f*ing game is easy.just calculate your one month total payouts and compare that with snapdeal sevice invoice. You can that both amounts are almost same or sometimes snapdeal getting more money than seller. Tht means around 50% money is for snapf**kingdeal. Then what the f**k we doing here, just to feed these rascals? I lost lot of money in this, not anymore. I stopped this online rummy game, just want to concentrate on my offline store. Thank you snapdeal for being such nice ass**les till this time.
